Nathan Cooper is a native Tennessean, though a Texan by birth, who considers home to be both the Nashville area and the Cumberland Plateau, where most of his family live.  Growing up in Churches of Christ as a preacher’s kid, Nathan’s training in ministry started early and comprehensively, starting with giving a Sunday night sermon at seven years old from a blue step stool and including learning to lead worship with five minutes’ notice (but only when absolutely necessary).

Nathan’s calling to ministry centers around discipleship and worship. He received a Diploma in Theology from the University of London and attended Lipscomb University before matriculating to the Institute of Worship Studies where he earned his Masters in Worship Studies.  His focus is on how we take what God gives us and respond to it, helping provide tools and answers for weaving God’s word into our daily lives and habits as well as our sermons and songs

In his free time, Nathan enjoys writing, making music, and spending time with his family and friends.  He is a loyal and enthusiastic Titans fan, avidly prefers Coke to Pepsi, and enjoys breaking out a frisbee, a game of Spades, or most board games. He is an avid tea-drinker and shares C.S. Lewis’s sentiment, “You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.” His favorite authors include Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien and he believes that a good story is often as powerful as a good sermon, and sometimes more so.

In 2012, he married Jennifer, a Tennessean at heart who shares his “geek” in most things, and became father to Matthew, Ethan, and Brandon. They completed their half dozen with Zoe Grace.  The Coopers served at churches in Michigan and Ohio before finally coming home to Tennessee. Nathan joined the Clarksville Highway ministry team as worship minister in October 2019, and he and his family have been so blessed to be welcomed and encouraged by this wonderful congregation.  They believe God is doing great things at Clarksville Highway and are grateful to be both recipients and partners with this church family in His work.
